Detail ToRs of the position as under
Background: The Glacier Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF)-II project aims to mitigate the risks associated with glacial lake outburst floods in vulnerable regions. The project focuses on developing comprehensive GIS maps to enhance understanding, preparedness, and response capabilities.
Position: Student Research Associate
Scope of Work:
Process all kinds of satellite and drone imagery and topographic data of glaciers and glacier lakes of targeted locations. Utilize GIS software to process and analyze spatial data. Create maps illustrating glacial lake locations, potential flood pathways, and at-risk communities.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Data Acquisition and Management:
Obtain relevant spatial data from various sources such as satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and field surveys. Organize, clean, and manage spatial datasets in GIS databases for analysis.
  • Spatial Analysis:
Perform spatial analysis using GIS software to identify patterns, relationships, and trends within geographic data.Conduct proximity analysis, overlay analysis, and suitability analysis to solve spatial problems.
  • Remote Sensing Analysis:
Interpret satellite imagery and aerial photographs to extract meaningful information about land cover, land use, and environmental changes. Utilize image processing techniques to enhance and analyze remote sensing data.
  • Map Production and Visualization:
Create maps and visualizations using GIS software to communicate spatial information effectively.Design maps for various purposes such as planning, environmental assessment, and decision-making.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to address spatial problems and achieve project goals. Communicate findings and results to stakeholders through reports, presentations, and visualizations.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and legal requirements related to data privacy,
intellectual property rights, and environmental regulations in GIS/RS activities.
Position: Student Research Assistant 
Scope of Work:
Digitization and Data preparation of GIS and HVRA Analysis. Working on relevant software for data analysis and processing. Work under the supervision of Research associate.
